St. Ludwin

Small, family owned wine estate is located in the picturesque wine town of Alzey, considered the wine capital of the Rheinhessen wine district as it sits at the halfway point of the region's famous wine road known as the "Weinstrasse."

The winery is named after St. Ludwin, a Benedictine bishop of Trier, Germany's oldest city. Before being consecrated a bishop, he founded the abbey of Mettlach in the late 7th century. Located in the delightfully romantic Saar River valley, the setting of Mettlach Abbey is ideal, and is considered to be one of the foremost tourist attractions in Germany today.

The owner of St. Ludwin has been in the possession of this winery for several generations, and has a long-standing reputation as a producer of outstanding regional wines from the Mosel and Rhine wine districts. Excellent personal and business relationships with many of the regions' top growers have provided long-term contractual arrangements which have solidified St. Ludwin's position as a producer of exceptional wines at reasonable prices.

The wine estate's reputation has been built upon crafting wines which offer finesse, elegance and typicality of flavor, specific to its geographic location and soil type. St. Ludwin is especially proud of its wines produced from vineyards located in the villages of Bernkastel, Piesport alongside the pretty Mosel River and Nierstein nestled beside the majestic Rhine.
